The Striders had a small but select squad competing at St Senans open cross country event. Over 300m, TJ Murphy won emphatically, to get us off to a great start. TJ’s training partners continued the successful run of events, with Sarah Lillis, Maitiu Wall and Cormac Delaney all performing really well and deservedly winning medals. Sam Myers was our sole representative at U12 level and finished very strongly to finish just outside the top three. More success followed for the U14 boys with Myles Hewlett recording a wide margin victory and leading the Striders team including Ben Myers, Cosmo Hewlett, Sean Lennon and Tommaso Hickey, to a team gold. In the same age group, Isabel Bawden and Hazel Hickey ran really well in a very competitive race. Ben Wall, Darragh Flannelly and Owen Lennon all finished in the top five, in a race full of top quality athletes. The day ended, as it began, for the Striders Juveniles, with Ryan Kielthy winning the U18 event, looking very impressive over the testing 4km course.
Warming up for the upcoming county senior championships, John McGrath and Brendan Lyng had impressive outings. Over 7km, John won the Masters event and Brendan finished third in the Seniors event. Well done to all Striders young and old who performed so well at Kilmacow today.
