With quite a stringent qualification process to compete at the National Juvenile Cross Country event, it was fantastic to have so many Striders in action at Abbotstown, last Sunday. Myles Hewlett was our star performer, picking up a national silver medal, with a fantastic display of front running. Myles covered the testing 3km cross country course in 9.58, which ranks as one of the best ever performances by an under age Strider. He was ably supported by his teammates Eoin Shannon, Finn Kelly, Sean Lennon, Cosmo Hewlett, Ben Myers, Caolan Costello and Tomasso Hickey. All eight boys have made great personal progress and recorded a fourth place finish in the national club event. Ever so close to a national medal in this ultra competitive age group.
Our BU16 team were also competing, courtesy of the provincial club winning performance, in October. All running out of age, they gave it their best shot, and under the circumstances, performed really well. There team consisting of Ben and Robert Wall, Aidan Shannon, Darragh Flannelly and Oisin MacEochaidh, all finished mid pack, and outside the club and county team medals. This group will team up with Myles and the other younger lads, to compete at the National U15 event, in mid December. Watch this space!
