National Cross Country Relay & B Championship, Dundalk, 03-Feb-2019

Erinn Shannon has just kicked off a busy day for the Striders at Dundalk, with a fantastic fifth place finish, at the National Cross Country “B” Championships. Having missed most of the Cross Country season with a foot injury, Erinn has bounced back better than ever, to record her best ever finish at this event. What a Legend – coaching our new-joiner juveniles on Saturday morning, then winning a national medal on Sunday morning. Also at Dundalk, the National Juvenile Cross Country Relays provided plenty more thrills and spills for the Striders. Following on from Erinn’s great performance, our boys were excellent and for the second year in a row have won the U14 national title. In the U12 age group, Ronan Shannon, Olan Delaney, Sam Myers and Eoin Hannan ran a scorching relay and were unlucky to finish just outside the medals. Next up, we had two teams of U14 boys attempting to repeat last years win. Against the biggest and best clubs in Ireland, the team of Cosmo Hewlett, Myles Hewlett, Eoin Shannon and Aidan Kehoe all excelled in winning another national team gold for the Striders, in a very tight finish. A mention too for Tommaso Hickey, Finn Kelly, Sean Lennon and Ben Myers who all gave it their best, and very nearly won a second medal, in the same race. Special times for the Striders, with all this under age talent….long may it last.
