Congratulations, thanks and best wishes to all committee members who will once more dedicate their time, energy and talents to making our club the best it can be. Club membership is very appreciative of all your efforts.

A very warm welcome is extended to our incoming Chairperson, Conrad Shannon. Conrad joined the Striders in 2012 and immediately became an integral part of our club, assisting in our Juvenile coaching and playing a lead role in the organisation of events such as the 2015 Leinster Cross Country at JFK Park. No mean under age athlete himself, for Duncannon AC, Conrad has clearly passed on his athletic ability to the next generation of Shannons – Erinn, Aidan, Eoin and Ronan – who have all been star performers for our Juvenile section over recent years. With a wealth of experience, infectious enthusiasm, and a real “can-do” attitude, Conrad was a very popular appointment to the role of Chairperson.

For every incoming Chairperson, there must be an outgoing one, and USAC have been blessed to have had Mel Heynan in the role for as long as we can remember. Mel, came to Ireland from his native Belgium in the early 70’s, for a short holiday and thankfully, ended up staying. As a co-founder of the club in 1974, Mel witnessed some fantastic years for athletics in New Ross, producing olympians and All-Ireland winners. Mel’s own athletic achievements are well worthy of a mention, including a 2nd place in a World Masters 1,500m heat, at Rome, and race times that have stood the test of time. A highly respected coach and a very effective administrator, Mel may have stepped down from the Chairperson role, but he continues to be the much loved father figure of USAC.

On behalf of the new Committe and all club members, I’d like to thank Mel for all his work as Chairman over the years, and welcome Conrad to the new role.
