The Striders made history at Kilmacow, by winning the Best Club Shield, at St Senans AC’s Open Track & Field day. The 40th anniversary of this event, attracted all the top clubs from the south east and more, from much further afield. After coming close to winning the shield last year, we had a great turn out, from all age groups, who put in some great efforts to win this year.
The Striders won individual sprint medals with some great perfromances by Sean O’Brien, Aaron Browne, David Miodzionowski, Oisin MacEochaidh, Rebecca Bawden, Nic Walkden, Joshua Hewlett and Elaina Browne. More medals for Myles Hewlett, Darragh Flannelly, Erinn Shannon, Elaina Browne, Adam O’Connor, Aaron Browne and Cian Flanagan followed in the middle distance events. Aedan Rogers won his Junior Men’s race in great style, with Gavin Kelly finishing second in the Masters category, of the same 3km race.
Continuing their great form in the Race Walk event, were Eve Byrne and Ryan Kielthy, both winning individual medals. Rebecca Bawden and Ciara Kelly won gold and silver medals in the Long Jump. Oisin MacEochaidh won our sole throws medal, with a fine performance in the Shot Putt. To finish the day the Striders put in lots of fine performances to win six further medals in the Relay events.
