Temperatures were hot tonight and the competition was even hotter in a very competitive Senior County road race hosted by Wexford Marathon Club.
The women headed out first on the 5k loop around a testing course. First Striders lady home was Beth O’Connor with a very competitive run, closely followed by Sonya Byrne, with Geraldine Purcell and Liz Keating to complete the women’s team, and also Aine Cullen. Our ladies team was 4th. Well done ladies.
The men had an extra tough task with a 10k course to complete. First and second were run away winners on the night, but as the men came around in the first loop there was a tight pack of about 10 with each one going to fight for 3rd. Alan O’Connor and John McGrath were placed nicely and as they finished the second loop they were unlucky not to grab that 3rd place and finished 5th and 6th respectively, only seconds behind third place. Brendan Lyng and Pat O’Callaghan completed the men’s team and they were very unlucky to place 4th team. Very strong running on the night also from George Delaney and John Kent.
Well done to all and that marks the end of our road season at county level. Thanks to all of our supporters who turn up without fail. That shout out from the side of the road means a lot. Thanks to the hosts WMC for tonight’s race.
