The Mr Oil Senior Men’s and Women’s County Wexford Road Championships took place in Murntown last Saturday evening. Event hosts Wexford Marathon Club chose a rather testing route which included a long 1.5km uphill drag. The ladies raced over 5Km and Beth O’Connor, the sole USAC representative, raced really well to finish comfortably inside the top half of the field. The Striders were very well represented in the 10Km mens race and with the whole squad running really well, it was no surprise that they were right in the mix for the team medals. Led home by teenager Aedan Rogers, in a very impressive fourth place, the Striders team took second place in the team event, a mere 4 points behind the winners SBR. Alan O’Connor, John McGrath and Brendan Lyng completed the team, with all finishing inside the top ten. George Delaney, who last week won the Wexford novice title, placed 11th, ahead of Sean Murphy, Paul Doran, Pat O’Callaghan, John Kent, Paul Colfer, Colm Stafford, Anthony Sinnott and Emmett Malone. A fantastic effort from all, well done.
