Wexford Junior / Masters Cross Country Championships, Lingstown, 20-Jan-2019

The final action of a busy weekend, was the Wexford Masters Cross Country event, which also incorporated the Junior events. The Striders had a big number of Juniors competing, all of whom are transitioning from our juvenile to senior section. Erinn Shannon produced a stunning performance, after an injury, to place second in the Womens Junior event, just ahead of Rebecca Bawden, Grace Costello and Sinead O’Loughlin. With three to score in the team event, the girls took gold, in facile fashion. Aedan Rogers produced an equally impressive performance to win the Mens Junior event, ahead of James Boland in second. There was a fantastic representation of Striders in the Masters events. Beth Foran led home the Striders ladies, ahead of Sonya Byrne, Catherine Ronan, Catriona McLoughlin and Lettie Myers, who finished fourth in the team event. Joe Lillis, in third place overall, was at the front of the Striders pack, that included John Kent, George Delaney, Brendan Lyng, Alan O’Connor, John McGrath, Emmett Malone, Mick O’Gorman, Ted Flannelly, Pat Callahan, Fabian Flood and Pat Murray. The Striders took the team event, with four scoring, to record a winning score of 18 points. Well done to all, on a day where both young and slightly older Striders represented our club with real distinction.
