Wexford Masters Road Race Championships, Kilmore, 10-May-2019

Nicola Murphy put in a sensational effort, on her first competitive for the Striders, leading home the ladies team, with a fantastic top ten finish, over 4km at Kilmore. With three to score in the team event, Beth O’Connor and Sonya Byrne made up the Striders team, that were very competitive, finishing just outside the medals. Lettie Myers and Catriona McLoughlin completed the ladies squad, with both finishing well up the field, completing our best showing in this event for some years.

The mens race was a sea of black & white singlets, with the Striders fielding seventeen athletes. Paul Doran and Joe Lillis pushed regular winner of this event, Niall Sheil, all the way, eventually settling for second and third places respectively. Brendan Lyng was fourth overall, with Alan O’Connor, John McGrath and George Delaney all in the top dozen. With four to score in the mens event, Ted Flannelly and Pat Murray rounded off the Striders teams who scooped a remarkable first and third in the club team events. Colin Carney, John Kent, John Hickey, Pat O’Callaghan, Thomas Moran, Eddie Murphy, Matt Flannelly, Eddie MacDonald and Martin Kehoe made up the remainder of an amazing group of athletes who have made so much progress over a short time. To round off a great evening, Brendan and Alan won their age categories.

Well done to all Striders who competed with great success at one of Wexford Athletics flagship events. Thanks to all who assisted in the organisation of a great event.
