National Juvenile Track & Field Championships, 7th / 13th / 14th Jul-2019, Tullamore

The Striders had multiple juvenile athletes qualify from the provincial championships, for the National Track & Field championships at Tullamore. Myles Hewlett was in action in the Boys U15 800m, coming through his heat, just off the fast pace.  In the final, he had an even quicker race and battled hard for a national medal. He finished 3rd, in a time of 2.08.51 mins and won a well-deserved bronze medal. Darragh Flannelly finished 8th in the Boys U16 800m. Darragh led the race up to the final bend and clocked an impressive time of 2.07.62. Adam O’Connor was unfortunate to miss out on a place in the Boys U17 800m final, in a really quick heat. He finished 10th in a time of 2.11.44 mins.

Our race walkers had a great championships with Owen Lennon winning bronze in the Boys U16 3000m walk and Isabelle Bawden coming 4th in the GU15 2000m walk. Superb performances from both athletes.

Myles Hewlett was also competing in the Boys U15 1500m and was hopeful of a second middle distance medal. Myles once again won a fantastic bronze medal, finishing just off the silver medallist in a time of 4.19.80 mins. This rounds off a very successful season for Myles.

Well done to Aedan Rogers who competed in National Juniors over 800m. Aedan ran 1.59 for a 5th place finish.
