A number of seniors Striders were in action at the National Masters Track & Field Championships, the final Track & Field event of the year.
Sonya Byrne took Gold in the O40 400m event, in great style. Drawing the inside lane, Sonya had overtaken all her competitors by the time she entered the home straight and with all her middle distance experience, she never looked like relinquishing the lead. After much provincial success, this is Sonya’s first National title, which is very well deserved.
Aine Cullen took the National title in the O40 Weight for Distance, which is the first time that anyone from the club has competed in this event. She also took Silver in the Shot Putt and 4th in the Discus.
George Delaney and John McGrath had a busy day, competing in both the O45 800m and 1500m events. Competing in big fields and fast races, they ran very competitively and were unlucky not to medal, with George 4th & John 6th in the 800m, and George 5th & John 6th in the 1500m. Well done to both. Roll on the cross country season.
