Wexford Novice Road Race, Enniscorthy, 18-Jun-2021

Racing returned with a bang last Friday evening with the County Novice Road Race in Enniscorthy. There was a big Striders turnout in both the women’s and men’s events with several standout performances in both races.
Katie Murphy showed fantastic determination to win the silver medal in the women’s race. Katie, along with Sinead Croke, Sinead Cullen and Liz Conway, ably assisted by Aine Cullen, took the team silver medal for Striders.
Scott James won a bronze individual medal in a fast finish in the men’s event. Scott led a string of Striders finishing just ahead of Colin Carney, John Byrne and the fast-improving Tomas Harrington to win the team gold for the men. The next four Striders home (Pat Murray, Jamie Cullen, Pat Culleton and Tom Moran) narrowly missed out on the bronze team medal. Fabian Flood, John Hickey, Liam Traynor and Emmet Malone demonstrated the club’s strength in depth by all finishing strongly.
A big well done and a word of thanks to our friends in Slaney Olympic and the county board for organising the race in challenging circumstances. Roll on the county Intermediate next Friday.
